Nirantar Neeraj, Delhi 25th July, 2014

In our mission to celebrate poets and poetry, a new show on Padma Bhushan Gopal Das Neeraj, the Living Legend, was staged in Delhi on 25th July, 2014 at Kamani Auditorium. The show was again scripted in conversational style, in which his son, Mrigank, also participated. In this musical drama, 12 of his most poetic film songs were rendered by 5 consummate singers; 2 accompanied by dance. There were also recitals of scores of his poetry by his other son Shashank, as a part of the script. The highlight of the show was the surprise (for the audience) appearance of Neeraj himself and his fluent recital, despite his 90+age, in his own unique style, of several of his favourite poems. The event received an overwhelming appreciation.

Nirantar Neeraj was fabulous even by the high standards of Ibaadat. The dramatic arrival of the great man himself choreographed creatively, was the high water mark of the event. The script, recitals, vocals, music and dances were of a high order and to see the great man himself reciting his unforgettable poetry was priceless! An unforgettable evening!
