As has now come to be expected with all of Ibaadat's programmes,Rooh-e-Majrooh organised at Delhi on 22nd March,2016 was a memorable treat for me and my wife,Vibha. The presence of Saba Sultanpuri and Raju Naushad, and the anecdotes they shared, added to the magic of the evening. Of the immensely vast repertoire of Majrooh Saheb's works, it must have been a difficult task to select just a few of his songs, but I really admire the imagination that must have been required on the part of you and your colleagues to select an impeccably representative group--all my personal favourites were there. One request-whenever you next organise a programme on Majrooh, please also include "Pehla Nasha.....",as I have never ceased to admire Majrooh saheb for writing this when he was at a ripe old age. Words fail to describe the experience we had on attending Rooh e Majrooh. It was so well researched, written and presented that every moment was amazing and we were spellbound by the entire show. The singers, specially Supriya and Sarvesh, were superb with amazing range and voice quality. Not a fault could be found in any rendition. So many people would not have known, including me, that Majroohji had such a rich body of work and was such an exceptional writer. Thank you very much for your message and for asking for feedback about the show. As a part of the Ibaadat Journey however tenuous, I feel humbled and privileged each time I see an event organized by Ibaadat Foundation. This time too, it was no different. The show maintained the very high standards established by Ibaadat. And the start and the ending of the show was uniquely moving, touching and memorable. If at all I were to think of areas of improvement – my view would be more holistic. Let me explain. The theme – I feel that you could have considered other options instead of re-visiting Majrooh. While, I recognise that Sahir has probably been ‘over exposed’ as a subject, there are other wonderful poets such as Qamar Jalalabadi, Jan Nisar Akhtar, SH Bihari, Hasrat Jaipuri and Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, whose poetry embodies majesty and magic. The fact that all of them have written for OP Nayyar, is purely coincidental. Looking ahead – The Ibaadat journey has just begun. Sometimes it helps to ‘brain-storm’ in order to infuse new thoughts & ideas about the future. Perhaps the Trustees of Ibaadat plus some committed fans of Ibaadat could get together in such a ‘no-holds-barred’ session in order to plan, dream and decide of the future course for Ibaadat. The show Rooh-e-Majrooh was a success in all departments. The style of presentation through 'mehfil style gooftgoo', selection of anecdotes and songs, quality of singers, music tracks etc. were top class and did not leave any area for improvement. Time management was excellent as was the touch of informality through interaction with invited guests from among Majrooh's family. The event was thoroughly enjoyable. We are delighted to have spent an evening full of entertainment of the highest order. My wife Neelamji has a suggestion for this as well as other Ibaadat events. She felt that the views of co-workers and industry rivals of the personality in focus (like Majrooh) should be included in your shows, if possible. Music directors, music instrument players and technicians as well as other poets and lyricists would have a wealth of information which could throw more light on the personality in focus. Reached there at 6 pm but still could not get the best seats. There are so many people who loves to be there and get the best seats. Such is the popularity of your programs. The program was superb. I don't know how the time flew and when it was announced that last two songs will be rendered, I came to senses and checked the watch. All the singers were fabulous and listening them was divine. Supriya is outstanding. Rendition of "Sun mere bandhu re" was superb. Came out of the theatre so much mesmerised but got a shock when looked for my car. It was towed away to Traffic police office near Bangla Saheb gurudwara. Anyway, but the effect of the program was too much which did not let me feel the inconvenience. It was not until I saw Ibaadat’s stage presentation of the life and times of the great poet Majrooh Sultanpuri, at the Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi, on the 22nd March, that I realized what I had been missing all these years. As you perhaps know, our entire family- three generations - are extremely fond of Hindustani music, and sing whenever we get the opportunity! Old film songs of the 50’s and 60’s, geet, ghazal, classical…. What I want to convey to you and the whole Ibaadat team is that what I saw and heard that day was a rare treat. Rare, because I am not aware of any other group which has attempted such a comprehensive, well researched, creatively satisfying production on such a subject, for stage. It was a tapestry of poetry, music, drama, and spoken word, not only bringing alive the life of one of Hindi Cinema’s greatest legends, but reminding us of those poets (lyricists) whose creative genius made the films memorable, who penned unforgettable words which were set to music, which are undoubtedly the soul of Indian Cinema, and are on the lips of generations of music lovers long after they were written…That evening the Kamani stage was transformed into a ‘baithak’, with characters from Majrooh Sahib’s life stepping in and out – his daughter, Saba, married to his friend Naushad’s son—his friends and contemporaries, biographers, admirers…There was nostalgia, humour, outbursts of shaayari, anecdotes, all exquisitely delivered in chaste Urdu and Hindustani, with the comperes blending into that milieu with poise and dignity, all creating an aura of those bygone days and fast vanishing culture….A beautiful mosaic held together by Majrooh’s haunting lyrics. And the singers, whose performance held the audience spellbound, they were easily some of the finest voices heard on the Delhi stage. They brought the house down when they sang some of Majrooh’s all-time greats. One could have happily sat through the night to hear some more of our favourites, but sadly the curtain came down! It is good to see that in this rapidly changing world, with the invasion of rap, pop and fusion music, there are still hordes of city dwellers, young and old, who despite their many preoccupations, flock to hear the soulful music of yesteryears. For them Ibaadat’s programmes are an unmissable treat, an escape from the soul killing ennui of big city life. I am so happy, Sangeeta, that you have dedicated part of your life to such a worthwhile and joyful occupation. We wish Ibaadat a great future from the bottom of our hearts. Chitra Narain, Former Dy. How happy I am to have come all the way from Bangalore to see for myself what you have been up to these recent years. Surely, the most impressive and entertaining programme of my 85-year old life. Just everything was novel, and perfect. I have you’re your remarkable skills at organizing Pooja’s and Pranav’s weddings and could see the perfection you brought to the show. The flow was just amazing. Wanted to go desperately to lighten myself but did not for the fear of missing out on something. Your efforts to give poets their rightful place are laudable…your Chachaji would have been truly proud of you. Would write a long mail when I return…Rooh-e-Majrooh was a unique experience. With Prithvi Haldea, something different from the general run was expected in any case. This proved true. What set it apart: The function started punctually; There were no Chief Guests or garlanding. A welcome change. The audience consisted of only invitees interested in poetry and so were well-behaved and receptive listeners. There were hardly any children, the few there were so well looked after, one could not feel their presence. There was pin drop silence throughout. The show ended on time. The stage was a drawing room set for a cozy chat. Each person strolled in and settled down informally without fanfare. Music, poetry recitals of events with poet’s life were all blended with small dialogues in between. The volume of music was too loud. Over the years, my husband Dr. S.S. Rawat, being a good poet himself, met many literary celebrities and also attended numerous kavi-sammelans, mushiaras, dramas. I attended these with him, he would explain the difficult urdu words so I could fully understand the couplets. I entered the hall with trepidation wondering if I would be able to follow now. This part was also thoughtfully solved. The dialogues connecting the recitals served to lighten the atmosphere and also provided a simple explanation of the difficult part. We were all able to understand and fully appreciate the couplets. The show ended with a simple rendition of the National Anthem. It was a rewarding experience, we came away replete, bemused and wonderfully refreshed. Dr.Padma Rawat, Bangalore

Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the evening without a single moment when we could think that it was dragging. It was such a well-planned and crisp show that it would be difficult to find parallels. We were not only amazed by your hitherto unknown talents but also the fact that you manage to find time for your passion even in such busy schedule that you keep. I can only envy you and wish that I had even half of that determination and willingness to walk that extra mile to excel. As we were too involved with the show to look at it from the point of view of a critic, it would be unfair on my part to find reasons simply to finish a task. It was perfect to the core. It was a wonderful presentation... The life of the poet and his works presented in a simple yet novel way. Songs sung beautifully. The presenters were very natural and totally involved... Many thanks for inviting us to the program, it was a treat to be part of it once again. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Its presentation and direction are unique, especially the way one is reliving the writer's life story interposed with his songs makes it lively and engrossing for the viewer. The singers were great, we would want to make a special mention about Sarvesh, he is superb, truly Mohammad Rafi reincarnate. Even Supriya and Anand were brilliant. Would like to give a comment and two suggestions as part of our feedback - One, the casualness in the program is good, taking each other's (real) names and story-telling factual instances make it sound great. Some more of pun would add to the fun and make it even more lively. The feedback is about the big screens on the front of the stage were covering up most part of the view for the front benchers, this could be looked into please. My congratulations and thanks to you and your team for organizing a wonderfully enjoyable evening on Majrooh. The programme, besides, being highly entertaining, was equally educative. I rate this program me as a very special one since most of such music program me are predominantly associated with singers, Mohd Rafi night, Kishore Kumar night, Mukesh night but very seldom, it is structured giving predominance to the lyricist who is the backbone of such musical and intellectual satisfaction. My congratulations once again. Please keep it up and take it forward, although it would tell on your time and other activities. You have invited suggestions. One of my friends who also enjoyed the programme, mentioned that if the programme had covered all the singers who sang for Majrooh, like Hemant Kumar, it would have further enriched the listeners. The sizzling songs from the film Teesri Manzil –o mere Sona re Sona would have shown how Majrooh, the essential poet can not only match but even beat the fast numbers purveyors. The Rooh-e-Majrooh evening on March 22nd was excellent. We thought the format and was refreshing and more importantly gave a context to the music and a perspective into the life of Majrooh Sahib.
